Aus Newspapers to Provide Full Week Circulation Data

Newspaper publishers in Australia have agreed to start reporting daily circulation data through industry body The Newspaper Works. Daily figures have previously only been released for Saturday and Sunday editions.

Tony HaleAustralia's main newspaper companies - News Limited, Fairfax Media, APN News & Media and West Australian Newspapers - will now release daily sales figures for the full week, instead of the average data currently reported from Monday to Friday.

Working with the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), the publishers will begin auditing average daily sales from July and make data available from November.

'We understand and support the request of advertisers and advertising agencies to increase the availability of sales data for national, metropolitan and regional publications,' states Tony Hale, CEO of The Newspaper Works. 'Responding to advertisers and agencies, we propose bringing average daily sales reporting for Monday to Friday editions in line with reporting for weekends.'

Working with the ABC's Rule Review Sub-Committee, the publishers are also examining other options for further improving the transparency and frequency of their sales results; they are also actively contributing to the establishment of expanded digital auditing rules and guidelines, and the new audience metric to be delivered by Ipsos MediaCT.
