Sudler & Hennessey Co-founder Dies Aged 95

Matt Hennessey, the co-founder of WPP-owned global healthcare marcoms group Sudler & Hennessey (S&H), has died of cancer at the age of 95.

Matt HennesseyHennessey was born in 1916 in Brooklyn, New York and began his career in 1936, working with Arthur Sudler in his graphic design studio. Five years later, they co-founded Sudler & Hennessey, which is now part of WPP with specialist divisions in market research, strategic planning, branding, digital solutions and medical education.

After serving in the army during World War II, Hennessey returned to the agency and in 1953, he and Sudler made the decision to focus on the pharmaceutical industry. During his career, he hired a number of well-known art directors, including Andy Warhol. He retired from the business in 1984.

'Matt's legacy to the business world lives on and his vision helped to lay the foundation for the success S&H enjoys today on a global scale,' said Jed Beitler, Chairman and CEO Worldwide.

Hennessey is survived by his wife Virginia Catherine, his two children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
