Mirametrix Debuts 'Most Portable' Eye Tracker

Canadian firm Mirametrix has launched what it claims to be the 'world's most portable desktop eye tracker'.

Mirametrix was formed in 2008, bringing together innovators and developers from academic and industrial sources to create state-of-the-art solutions in eye tracking and related fields, including perception-based video technology, gaze-based analytics, and consumer gaze applications. Much of the company's development has concentrated on moving eye tracking away from specialist situations and adapting it for mainstream applications such as market research, site usability studies and game design.

The firm says the new product takes minutes to assemble, connects with a standard USB cable, is less than 40cm long, and fits in a laptop bag. It does not require any head-mounted equipment.

Dr. Craig Hennessey, CTO & Founder of Mirametrix, said: 'Eye tracking technology has long been restricted to niche applications such as basic research and assistive technology fields due to its traditionally expensive hardware architecture and complex setup procedure. Our new open software-based novel architecture enables high-performance and compact yet affordable eye tracking solutions. The new release strengthens the robustness, reliability, portability and usability aspects of Mirametrix S2 desktop Eye Tracker allowing it to be used in many new applications.'

Mirametrix joined the TandemLaunch Technologies acceleration program in early 2011. TandemLaunch specialize in the industrial commercialization of new technologies, and both companies are based in Montreal.
