Pike Launches 'Smart Cities' Intelligence Service

US-based cleantech specialist Pike Research has launched the 'Smart Cities Advisory Service', which will provide market intelligence and insights for city officials, service providers and vendors seeking to create more 'liveable' urban environments.

Eric WoodsPike Research was launched in 2009 by former ABI Research leader Clint Wheelock, and now has US offices in Boulder, CO, and Washington, DC; a European HQ in London; and an AsiaPac regional headquarters in Seoul, South Korea.

The new service offers help for clients wanting to harness smart energy and IT in order to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions, and foster 'economic development cities' with a lower environmental footprint per resident. Pike Research's industry analysts will offer market insights covering specific technology and business sectors, along with overall market conditions and trends. Research reports include an in-depth examination of business models, technology issues, policy and regulatory factors, plus the competitive landscape.

Research Director Eric Woods comments: 'Cities are responsible for between 60% and 80% of the world's energy use and about the same percentage of greenhouse gas emissions. Smart information and communication technologies that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of urban systems and services will not only help mitigate the environmental effects of mass urbanization, but also improve the lives of the people who inhabit the world's burgeoning cities.'
