Steep Revenue Rise for MicroStrategy

US-based MicroStrategy - which provides business, mobile and social intelligence applications - has reported a 19% increase in first quarter revenues to $145.1m from $122.0m in the prior year period.

Michael SaylorFounded in 1989, the firm provides platforms which analyze the vast amounts of data stored across client's enterprises, via the web and mobile devices; while its social intelligence solution helps companies tap into social networks in order to better understand and engage their customer and fans.

Net income for the first quarter of 2012 was $0.3m, compared with $1.1m for the first quarter of 2011. During the period, operating expenses increased 20% from $87.8m last year, to $105.6m - which the firm says was primarily due to increased headcount.

Yesterday, the firm's shares closed at a 3-month high of $156.24.
