Sorrell and Worcester Become MRS Patrons

WPP CEO Sir Martin Sorrell and MORI founder Sir Robert Worcester have been appointed as patrons of the Market Research Society (MRS), alongside dunnhumby founder Clive Humby and social commentator Peter York.

Sir Martin Sorrell and Sir Robert WorcesterFollowing its buyout of TNS in 2008, WPP announced plans to move away from its role as a traditional media and advertising supplier, to concentrate on becoming a more insight-led organisation.

Sorrell commented in a statement today: 'Understanding consumers, including corporates and how their purchase and media habits are changing is increasingly critical. That's why quantitative disciplines, consumer insight and digital, are now half of WPP's $17 billion revenues.'

Worcester, who founded MORI in 1969, described market research as a 'way of life', adding his hope that as a Patron of the MRS, he would be able to 'give a bit back' to what he has learned about the business.

Humby stepped down two years ago from day-to-day leadership of the groundbreaking loyalty data firm he founded with his wife Edwina Dunn in 1989, while broadcaster, management consultant and cultural guru York, real name Peter Wallis, rose to fame as co-author of The Official Sloane Ranger Handbook.
