Big Data Firm Platfora Raises $20m to Fuel Growth

US Business Intelligence platform Platfora has closed a $20m Series B round of funding, which it will use to expand its sales and marketing efforts across the US and globally, while increasing its product engineering and design teams in San Mateo, CA.

Platfora's apps sit on top of Hadoop - an infrastructure environment for aggregating and analyzing data, and allow non-specialist business users to explore, interact with, and derive insights from massive data sets, via a web-based interface.

The firm's latest funding has been led by Battery Ventures, with participation from existing investors Andreessen Horowitz and Sutter Hill Ventures.

Platfora founder and CEO Ben Werther (pictured) comments: 'We couldn't be happier with the way the market has reacted to Platfora - we've seen a burning interest in letting non-technical users harness the data in Hadoop for visual insight. In order to address this interest, we need to accelerate our go-to-market strategy and quickly grow our team.'
