Explain Buys Wood Holmes
Newcastle, UK-based Explain Research has acquired local innovation agency Wood Holmes for an undisclosed sum; and says it is also in negotiations to buy an unnamed specialist research agency based in London, next spring.
 Founded in 1989, Wood Holmes uses quant, qual and anthropological research techniques to help clients understand their customers and develop new products and services. The firm's offering will now be integrated with Explain's areas of expertise.
Following the buy Explain, which was set up in 1993 by founder and CEO David Shiel and is led by MD Kim Davis, now employs 37 staff at its head office on Leazes Park Road and CATI centre.
Shiel says the deal is an 'excellent fit' because the companies are strong in different sectors, and that the new arrivals will 'greatly enhance' the firm's expertise.
Wood Holmes' previous co-owner and MD Tamsin Greulich (pictured) comments: 'We are delighted to be able to bring together these ambitious and talented agencies. The acquisition by Explain can only bring positive change and I have no doubt that our existing clients will be impressed by what we are able to offer with Explain.'
