IBM Opens Columbus Analytics Center

IBM is to launch another center dedicated to developing skills and advancing research into analytics, big data and cognitive computing, creating up to 500 jobs in Columbus, Ohio over the next three years.

More Big Data Investment for Big BlueThe IBM Client Center for Advanced Analytics, sited at IBM's existing campus at 4600 Lakehurst Court, in the Tuttle Crossing area of northwestern Columbus, will look to work with organisations such as Ohio State University, JobsOhio and Columbus 2020, and will work with Ohio State to develop curricula for new undergraduate and graduate degree programs in analytics.

Mike Rhodin, SVP of IBM Software Solutions Group, says data is 'a powerful natural resource that if used wisely can drive US economic competitiveness and lead to rewarding careers in the future dedicated to building a smarter planet.' Christine A. Poon, Dean of Ohio State's Fisher College of Business, comments: 'Our strong collaboration with IBM will help our students across a variety of majors gain the latest skills in this burgeoning Big Data discipline and set them on a path to secure the high skilled jobs of the future.'

Earlier this month, the government of Nova Scotia, Canada awarded IBM a $12.2m grant towards the opening of a global analytics centre in Halifax, which by 2020 is projected to house around as many staff as the Ohio Center.
