VC Firm Buys Stake in Media Analytics Firm kontexto

Venture capital firm Spectral Capital Corporation has acquired an 8% minority stake in Canadian firm Kontexto, which provides real-time data collection and analysis services for digital media and data intelligence teams. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 2009 by online search and analytics execs Tom St John and Rick VanWell, Kontexto develops software and services that help media clients extract business value from massive amounts of online audience, competitor and social media data.

Its proprietary analysis platform Publishflow provides a real-time audience, competitor and social trending data service; while its data analysis visualization tool Monitr helps organizations understand the data and events that influence their business.

Spectral CEO Jenifer Osterwalder comments: 'Companies today realize that in order to thrive, they must have instant insight into data sets that are above and beyond their competitors and presented to them in user-friendly, flexible formats, which kontexto offers. Being able to correctly consume the data is just as important as receiving it… We believe in kontexto's vision and long-term growth prospects and are currently in talks to increase our stake holdings.'
