UK Researchers Happier
UK researchers are feeling more positive, possibly because of an increase in their budgets and revenues, suggests RSM in its latest Research Professionals' survey.
Wave 14 of the six-monthly online survey was completed by 298 UK-based researchers in May. Overall rates of growth of budgets/revenues increased during the period, with respondents reporting growth of 6.5% over the year, compared with 1.9% in December 2012 and 1.7% in May 2012. For the next twelve months participants are forecasting 5.8% growth.
There was a 'good' increase in expectations for all three economic KPIs tracked by the survey. A net score of +10% was recorded for the general financial health of the research sector, and represents an improvement of 23 percentage points from a net negative position last December. For the 'economic prospects of my company' question, the net score was +37%, the highest net score recorded to date.
Respondents are also asked if they expect the general economic condition of the country to improve or get worse. This wave's net score of +21% is the best recorded since the measure was introduced in 2010 and represents an improvement of 22 percentage points from six months ago.
