Another STB Patent for Rentrak
Multi-screen measurement firm Rentrak has been granted another US patent for a methodology which 'refines' television viewing measurement data from set-top-boxes (STBs).
 Just two weeks ago, the firm was granted a patent for a technique correcting STB big data bias by substituting actual behavioral characteristics for demographic-based weightings. Rentrak says the technology covered by the new patent detects and corrects problems to ensure viewing is not biased by the inclusion of automatic or scheduled STB events including 'tune-buffer overflows' or 'clock drifts'.
CEO and Vice Chairman Bill Livek comments: 'This patent is a major step forward in making Rentrak the new standard of television audience measurement. Raw set-top box data needs to be refined in order to be useful. Our technology does just that and we are proud to own it.'
