Former AOL Europe CEO to Lead SHIFT in London

In London, real-time marketing platform SHIFT has appointed former AOL Europe CEO Kate Burns as Managing Director of its UK and European operations.

Founded in 2010 and based in Santa Monica, USA, SHIFT provides a platform through which marketers can manage, launch and analyze campaigns. Last year, the firm introduced a social media analytics tool, allowing users to analyze their paid media by campaign or by creative.

Burns (pictured) takes up her new role with nearly two decades' digital experience. Most recently, she served as VP EMEA at ad targeting specialist Drawbridge. Prior to this, she was CEO and SVP AOL Europe, responsible for setting strategy and overseeing day-to-day operations, having joined the company in 2008 as VP of the firm's social media company Bebo. Earlier, she was UK MD of video sharing site the Daily Motion, and she spent nearly eight years at Google - initially as MD UK and latterly as Regional Director UK, Ireland and Benelux. During her career, Burns has also held senior roles at Altavista, DoubleClick, Ziff Davis and News International.

In her new position, Burns will lead SHIFT's European expansion and drive adoption of its Open Marketing Cloud, which provides tools for planning, advertising, and analysing marketing campaigns across Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. CEO and co-founder James Borow says Burns is 'a proven digital veteran with deep experience in building successful European operations from the ground up', and adds: 'Kate is the ideal leader to drive our international growth and adoption of SHIFT's Open Marketing Cloud.'
