Marine Federation Names Statistics and MR Head

Trade association The British Marine Federation (BMF) has appointed Alastair Wilson to head its Statistics and Market Research service.

Alastair WilsonThe BMF currently represents twelve regional associations, sixteen group associations and more than 1500 members across the UK marine supply chain - including the superyacht, chandlers, boatbuilders and brokers sectors. It also hosts boat shows in London and Southampton over ten days each year.

Wilson (pictured) joins after working for Reed Exhibitions as a Research Analyst, as a Researcher to the COO and CEOs at non-profit educational and training organisation Instructus, and as a Researcher at the Institute of Administrative Management. In addition, he says he has a love of 'all things maritime', inherited from his father who was a Captain in the Merchant Navy.

In his new role, he will oversee BMF's market analysis, and help the organisation promote the size and importance of the industry to government and the media. The role includes managing many annual reports including the 'Key Performance Indicators', 'Economic Benefits', 'Watersport Participation', and 'Boat Ownership', as well as twice-yearly 'Marine Industry Trends'.

In a statement, Wilson said that in the long-term he plans to expand the existing research programme to provide more in-depth market analysis, more consumer research studies, and more practical research. He reports to Hayley James, Head of Member Relations.
