Booz Allen Hamilton Hires Principal Data Scientist

In the US, management consultancy firm Booz Allen Hamilton has hired Kirk Borne as Principal Data Scientist in its Strategic Innovation Group (SIG).

Kirk BorneThe McLean, Virginia-based company provides management consulting, technology, and engineering services, employs more than 22,000 people globally, and had revenue of $5.48 billion in 2014.

Borne (pictured) joins from George Mason University (GMU), where he spent the past twelve years - most recently as a tenured Professor of Astrophysics and Computational Science, focusing primarily on data science education and research. While at GMU, Borne's work ranged from data mining and data science algorithms, to analytics applications across industries. Under Borne's direction, GMU developed the USA's first BS degree in Data Science, and he also served as a strategic advisor for the University of Maryland University College new Master of Science in Data Analytics program.

In his new role, which commences on May 18th, Borne will lead mentorship programs as well as educational training programs for Booz Allen's team of more than 500 data scientists. VP Angela Zutavern comments: 'We pride ourselves on building a team of data scientists that are not only technically talented, but also curious, tenacious, and capable of solving the previously unsolvable. Having Kirk here to shape and mentor this team will only help us further our mission of developing the industry's best and brightest data scientists.'
