Technical Hiccup / Public Holiday

Our apologies: due to a software problem a lot of readers did not receive Thursday's news email, so we've sent two days' worth this evening. We are sorry for the inconvenience and the small deluge of stories. You are - at least - now shot of us until Tuesday due to a public holiday on Monday in the UK.

Monday 31st is this year's UK August Bank Holiday, traditionally associated with a last chance to soak up the sun - but given recent weather these deck chairs may be empty because the erstwhile occupants have been struck by lightning.
