Talend Rolls Out Free Self-Service Data Application

Big data firm Talend has unveiled a free, open source desktop application helping business users with data manipulation and analysis.

Talend Data Preparation promises to help users 'explore, cleanse, enrich and combine data from different sources in minutes instead of hours' using intuitive tools and automated processing functions. Its creator says it also 'streamlines the flow of data throughout the organisation', allowing faster and deeper analysis by multiple users.

Key features include auto content discovery or identification, smart suggestions, cleansing and enrichment functions, data visualisations to help spot problems such as outliers; and the saving of 'recipes' or formulas for future use.

A commercial version of the product is planned for release next quarter, and will include data governance and compliance functionality and controls; multi-user role-based access; and high performance server-based data processing capabilities.

According to VP of Products Ciaran Dynes, 'While many companies have made good progress on their path to becoming more data driven, a major stumbling block is often the last mile of the journey as companies work to get accurate and actionable information in the hands of more business users'. Dynes says the new product will help 'overburdened IT teams that can't keep up with the growing data demands of the business', as well as 'data analysts who are all too frequently spending more time wrangling data than they are supplying insights'.

Talend is privately held and headquartered in Redwood City, CA, with a web site at www.talend.com .
