Apple Research Head Joins Mobile Ad Firm Kargo

Former Apple insights leader AJ Mathew has left the tech giant to join mobile advertising firm Kargo, in the newly created role of Vice President of Research.

Mathew was previously Global Head of Measurement & Insights for iAd, and helped the iPhone maker to build its first research and insights department for media and services. Prior to Apple, he worked in senior research roles at Yahoo!, Bloomberg Businessweek and WebMD.

In his new role, based in Kargo's New York headquarters and reporting directly to President & COO Ryan McConville, he will create a cross-functional team to design and implement a broad range of custom research including product and UX testing, audience insights and market intelligence. This will feed into Kargo's development of new advertising effectiveness products.

Kargo helps clients to create 'high-end advertising experiences' on mobile devices, and reaches 180 million users in the United States. In 2015 it broke the $100m revenue barrier, and last month it set up its first overseas offices, run by General Manger for International Owen Hanks, in London. The remainder of its 175 plus staff are based in offices in New York, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

President & COO Ryan McConville says of the appointment: 'We're very happy to have AJ on board to build out and lead a robust research team here at Kargo. Hiring AJ is the first step in establishing Kargo's reputation for thought leadership built around high-quality research and unique insights in mobile'.
