SMI Debuts High-Spec Eye Tracking Tools

German eye tracking technology provider SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI) has launched 'a whole new generation' of products, aimed at researchers with high quality data needs and based around the 'SMI iView 2K platform'.

SMI says the new products deliver up to 2000 Hz true binocular tracking and can be deployed for remote use, chinrest use and MRI. In any of these three modes, clients can use a tablet to control experiments remotely.

SMI iView 2K is being unveiled at this week's Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) in San Diego, CA. The range is aimed at labs requiring more precise eye tracking data, including those working with a broad variety of participant groups (e.g. infants, patients, the elderly); those working multimodal, e.g. with EEG or MRI data; and those with users of all experience levels and diverse experiment types.

The company has had a busy summer and autumn, launching a new framework for education researchers, a partnership with Kantar Retail for use in virtual shopping research, and (out of beta) a new mobile eye tracking solution, ASGM. SMI says the latest suite is highly portable, integrates seamlessly with MRI and EEG data as well as leading stimulus presentation software, and operates at the top level straight out of the box. According to Product Manager Dr Meike Mischo, the development process 'questioned every assumption about existing high performance eye trackers'and involved a mass of 'intensive conversations' with leading researchers about their experiences with existing high speed systems.
