Judge Dismisses Claim against Nielsen Malaysia

The High Court in Kuala Lumpur has dismissed a suit brought in 2011 by Sun Media Corporation and ordered it to pay RM 600,000 ($US 135,000) in costs to Nielsen.

The company took legal action six years ago, accusing The Nielsen Company (Malaysia) of publishing what it described as 'false and misleading readership estimates' for its newspaper the Sun, understating numbers between 2006 and 2010. This week, according to www.thestar.com.my , Justice Lee Swee Seng said the Nielsen Media Index (NMI) survey in question was reliable and the complaint was not proven, with the plaintiff failing to show it had suffered losses as a result.

The plaintiff's attorney Datuk Malik Imtiaz Sarwar said his client was considering filing an appeal.
