DataRobot Buys Data Science Firm Nutonian

In the US, machine learning specialist DataRobot has acquired data science software company Nutonian, which specializes in 'time series' analytical modeling. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Jeremy AchinNutonian's proprietary artificial intelligence-powered modeling engine Eureqa is used to analyse vast amounts of structured data, billions of times per second, and then build predictive models. Through Eureqa, data can be incorporated from a variety of sources, and users can interact with the models to explore 'what-if' scenarios, examine the relationships between variables, add fresh data, or force the algorithms to include or exclude certain variables.

DataRobot says that the addition of the Nutonian team and technology, will bolster its capabilities across different types of modeling problems, particularly those involving time series data (arrays of numbers indexed by time). DataRobot's own platform incorporates a library of hundreds of open source machine learning algorithms, through which it automates and evaluates predictive models.

CEO Jeremy Achin (pictured) comments: 'The addition of Nutonian's experienced people and patented technology is highly strategic for us during a time of rapid growth. Time series forecasting remains one of the most time intensive, yet valuable aspects of predictive modeling. Today, DataRobot is the biggest and most viable AI-focused company in the market with the fastest and easiest way to develop and deploy time series models to make the most accurate predictions possible.'
