Rolls-Royce Launches R2 Units
British luxury car and aero engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce has launched a system of innovation hubs called R2 Data Labs, which will use analytics, AI and machine learning technologies to drive design, manufacturing and operational efficiencies.
At the heart of R2 Data Labs are internal 'Data Innovation Cells'; mixed discipline teams of data experts who work in collaboration with teams from across Rolls-Royce's operations. These teams are tasked with exploring data, testing new ideas and converting them into new products and services. The initiative will also tap into expertise from a community of data innovators, including OEM partners, niche start-ups, academics, and other third-parties. At launch, separate hubs are located in the UK, US, Germany, Singapore, India and New Zealand.
The news follows the firm's recent partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), providing a digital platform through which data can be captured, shared and analysed across all areas of Rolls-Royce, for use in the development of new products and services. Neil Crockett (pictured), Head of R2 Data Labs and Chief Digital Officer for Rolls-Royce, comments: 'We see huge untapped potential for our customers to achieve better, more efficient operations through collaborating with Rolls-Royce in data innovation projects. So, we're building on our data innovation foundations with a new model that will deliver a major step-change in the capability and impact of our data innovation and services'.
