New CEO for Ad Currency Provider BARC India

TV audience measurement body BARC India has announced that founding CEO Partho Dasgupta is leaving the position, and will be replaced by Sunil Lulla.

Sunil LullaBARC India is a Joint Industry Company formed by broadcasters, advertisers and agencies in May 2015. In addition to providing the country's TV ad currency, the organisation now provides a suite of Insight products designed for broadcasters, advertisers and agencies - including PrimaVU, a product designed to measure viewing in 'premium homes'.

In a statement, Dasgupta said establishing the world's largest Audience Measurement Company had been 'a tremendous journey' but that 'having set it up, expanding the panel and introducing new insight products for news, sports, music and OOH genres, I thought it was time to move on and do new things'. He added, 'I would like to thank Board members and Techcomm members, especially Punit and Shashi, for the tremendous support and guidance'.

Lulla brings more than 35 years of media and marketing experience, recently from Balaji Telefilms group where he served as CEO for a year until the end of July; and previously as Chairman and MD of ad agency Grey Group India. Earlier in his career he spent three years at Sony Entertainment, eleven at J Walter Thomson and nine at Times Television Network as MD and CEO, led the launch of MTV in India and worked on an Internet portal, indya.com. He comments: 'I am delighted to lead BARC as its grows its footprint, in coverage, scope and services, in the fast growing and rapidly evolving TV and Digital Industry. Things are changing fast and Audience measurement has to keep pace with all these'.

BARC Chairman Punit Goenka says of the change: 'I welcome Sunil to BARC. He has been a board member before and is familiar. I would also like to thank Partho for steering BARC through tough times, building a great team and establishing the technology architecture that BARC is proud of. Winner of several awards, BARC India is now considered a benchmark by the global measurement community. We wish him the best for his career ahead'.

Lulla and Dasgupta will work together to ensure a smooth transition.
