ONS Data Science Campus Beats Analyst Training Target

In the UK, the Office for National Statistics' (ONS) Data Science Campus has beaten its target to train 500 analysts to use data science tools and techniques, with almost 700 analysts trained to date.

Alison PritchardLast September, the ONS was given a central role in the creation of the UK government's National Data Strategy, which aims to build a 'world-leading' data economy, while ensuring public trust in data use. The original plans included the training of 500 data analysts by 2021, with training delivered by the ONS's Data Science Campus, located at the ONS Newport site in South Wales.

The campus provides training through a whole range of learning options, from a full MSc in Data Analysis for Government, alongside graduate and apprenticeship programmes, to workshops and development schemes. Alison Pritchard (pictured), Deputy National Statistician for Data Capability at the ONS, comments: 'It's great news that we've been able to reach this key National Data Strategy target and go beyond. However, we're not stopping now. Sharing data science skills with the public sector allows us to go that step further to ensure we are harnessing the power of data, to help ensure decisions can improve the lives of those who need it.'
