Nielsen's Norwegian Radio Contract Extended

In Oslo, Norway, the country's MOC audience measurement body has extended Nielsen's contract for radio measurement, which was due to expire in twelve months' time.

Nielsen's Norwegian Radio Contract ExtendedThe measurement is carried out on behalf of Bauer Media, the P4 group and Norwegian broadcasting corporation NRK. Nielsen currently measures audiences for 'most types of audio content' regardless of distribution platform and device, and is used as ad currency. Data comes from a PPM Panel of 2,000 people and includes the number of listeners for each station, who they are for how long they listen; and can be analysed by location (listening at home, outside, in the car or in secondary homes)

Nielsen's Portable People Meter (PPM) has been used to measure radio listening in Norway since
2006. For the new contract, the firm will adjust for listening consumed using headphones, and introduce newly developed wearables meters, and promises to allow commercial broadcasters 'to make better use of their commercial inventory and target adverts on their digital platforms'.

NRK's Kristian Tolonen, who is Chairman of the MOC, comments: 'Nielsen has delivered a solid radio measurement in the current contract period, with strong professional integrity and a high service level. With this, Nielsen has written a new chapter for the high ambitions of Norwegian radio to measure radio according to world-class methodologies. We strongly believe that the next period from 2023 will lift radio measurement in Norway even further'.

Nielsen's Norwegian Market Leader Ragnhild Herlofsen comments: 'We are thrilled about the outcome of this tender process where we have been measured against strong international competitors'. Describing the award as 'extremely motivating and rewarding', she adds: 'Nielsen has made a clear business decision to invest heavily, both in terms of resources and technology - in developing and future proofing our media measurements so we can stay relevant in the market. The Norwegian radio broadcasters are known to be amongst the most forward-leaning in the industry, and to be able to continue the collaboration with this group is truly inspiring'.
