ASC Gains Community Interest Company Status

In London, the Association for Survey Computing (ASC) has secured the status of a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC), a special type of limited company which exists to benefit its community rather than private shareholders.

Matt GibbsFounded in 1996 as an unincorporated association, the ASC's focus is to improve knowledge in survey computing and disseminate information on survey techniques and software. The association catalogues current software systems and informs members of the latest software packages and techniques in the field, and it also organizes regular conferences and workshops covering relevant topics in the field.

With its move to CIC status, the ASC's resources and activities are now legally assigned to benefit its global community of survey and technology practitioners. If the company makes any surplus, it will be reinvested into the community and increasing access to the content it provides.

Association Chair Matt Gibbs (pictured), who is also MD of survey data firm Bayes Price, comments: 'The ASC's voluntary work, conducted for the benefit of our community since 1996, is a credit to everyone who has helped over the years. CIC status is a huge step forward in preserving that wonderful legacy, protecting all involved, and guiding future activities. Many congratulations to everyone who helped make it happen'.
