Funds for Data Ownership Platform Gener8

London-based data platform Gener8 has raised £5m in investment funding, and launched a mobile app through which individuals can track what data a company holds on them. They can then choose either to keep it private, or monetise it while browsing online. Investors include football manager Harry Redknapp.

Sam JonesThrough the apps' 'Privacy Mode', a user can prevent companies from tracking them, or if using the 'Rewards Mode', they can share their data with Gener8 and receive points in return. Points can be exchanged for products, vouchers or donations to charity. Gener8 founder Sam Jones (pictured) says his company believes it is the first business in the world to enable people to centralise their data into one location and earn from it.

As well as Redknapp, new funding comes from West Indies, Chris Gayle, Simon Clegg, Shane Ryan, and Tony Ryan, along with musician Tinie Tempah, and Dragons' Den stars Peter Jones, Touker Suleyman and Tej Lalvani. Jones adds: 'As part of this fundraise, we've brought onboard some fantastic investors with a wealth of expertise. I'm looking forward to working with them as we grow the business and execute on our mission.'
