New Leader for IMS Health

IMS Health has named David R. Carlucci, currently President and COO, as its new CEO from January 1, 2005. He succeeds David M. Thomas, who remains Executive Chairman of the board of directors and will focus on long-term growth strategy and new business development.

Carlucci, now 50, joined the company in October 2002 and in two years has realigned IMS' global marketing function, enhanced global sales account management, and strengthened operating teams and consulting and services capabilities.

Before joining IMS, he worked for 26 years at IBM. He joined as a sales rep, rose through positions including General Manager of the S/390 Division, Chief Information Officer and General Manager of IBM Printing Systems Company, and became General Manager, IBM Americas, a $40 billion business comprising all sales and distribution in the US, Canada and Latin America. He holds a B.A. in political science from the University of Rochester and serves on the advisory board for Mitsui USA, Americas Group.

Thomas, 55, who joined IMS in November 2000 and is widely credited with re-energizing the business as a client-focused organization, describes Carlucci as 'an exceptional executive, extremely well-qualified to lead our business'.
