Three New SVPs for Material

In New York, consumer insights, brand strategy and product innovation group Material has announced the arrival of three new leaders at SVP level: Marisa McMahon joins as Consumer Portfolio Lead, Erik Overby as Healthcare Portfolio Lead and Mark Burles will focus on tech and B2B companies.

Mark Burles, Erik Overby and Marisa McMahonMaterial was formed in 2020 from insight firm the LRW Group, enlarged following the acquisition of multiple companies the previous year. The group now combines proprietary behavioral science with advanced data, analytics and AI to predict and influence demand curves and accelerate growth for clients. In November, it launched an agile insights product called Spotlight, offering 'hyper-targeted' 5-minute surveys to answer 'one to two' specific business questions and backed up by the firm's behavioral science, insights and storytelling expertise; while a raft of recent senior hires included a new CEO, Laila Worrell, in March.

Each of the three new SVPs brings more than 25 years of experience in the sector. McMahon has focused on client relationship building and research solutions design, most recently at MarketCast where she was EVP and General Manager; and earlier in a range of senior leadership positions at Kantar. In her new role she will help to drive growth and success for a diverse portfolio of global consumer brands.

Overby's experience includes applying advanced research methods to study, understand and predict patient, physician and consumer behavior in the US and global healthcare sectors. He spent fifteen years at GlaxoSmithKline, and then led healthcare strategy and insights teams at firms including Affinnova/Nielsen, Kantar and ZS Associates. In his new positions he will use a cross-disciplinary approach to help bring clients closer to their customers, drive brand growth and improve patient outcomes.

Burles' work has focused on technology markets, and has included the building of research, reputation and public affairs programs to inform strategy for major global corporates. He previously held senior leadership positions at Ipsos Public Affairs and PSB Insights, and now takes the title of SVP Strategy + Insights.
