New CEO for Watch Me Think as Founders Step Back
The founders of video-based observational research firm Watch Me Think are stepping back from day-to-day operations, with the reins passing to a team led by newly promoted CEO Shawn Vaughn.
Watch Me Think helps clients understand how people behave in the real world, getting people to video themselves as they go about their lives and then analysing the results. Founded in 2012 by Alistair Vince, John Hoctor and Ste Drayton, the company quickly added a US presence to its offices in the UK and Australia.
The leadership transition has been in planning for eighteen months, and according to the firm 'reflects the founders' confidence in their team for the next stage of growth.' Vince, Hoctor and Drayton will all remain committed to the company as owners, and say they view its independent status as 'crucial to its identity and continued success.'
Vaughn (pictured) worked at Mintel for fifteen years in roles including VP Account Management, SVP Sales and Chief Commercial Officer, Americas, in two spells broken by a three-year stint as an EVP at GutCheck (now part of Toluna). After a year at Rival Group, he began working for Watch Me Think in November 2023 as a Consultant, and became Chief Commercial Officer a year ago.
Vaughn says the founders have built 'a culture that is, and always will be, people first,' and adds 'I have found more joy and inspiration in the last 18 months of my career than I ever thought possible.'
Vince says of the decision to step back: 'We're incredibly proud of what we've built together over the past thirteen years and are super pleased to be handing over the leadership of the company to our wonderful team. That same phenomenal team has shown us that we should probably have done this even earlier.' He adds his thanks to the firm's clients, partners, and supporters: 'Thanks to all of you for your belief, patience and enthusiasm for what we do. The support we've received has been instrumental in making Watch Me Think what it is today.'
