Synovate Buys in Sydney

Synovate has acquired Sydney-based AZTEC Information Systems. AZTEC supplies market research services to retailers, manufacturers and brand owners based on grocery, liquor and pharmacy retailers' EPOS or 'scan' data in Australia and New Zealand.

AZTEC, founded in 1995, has recently established operations in other parts of Asia Pacific and the UK.

Synovate Global CEO Adrian Chedore said the AZTEC acquisition would boost Synovate's already strong presence in the retail research market, and add retail pharmacy skills to existing healthcare expertise. 'AZTEC's information is 'trade currency' in the grocery sector and with this segment now accounting for around 15% of total market research spend globally, these services will become an important part of Synovate's global offering'. The acquisition marks Synovate's entry into the Australian and New Zealand markets.

According to AZTEC MD International Elgan Potter, the combination of Synovate's global resources and AZTEC's leading edge technology provides 'a unique opportunity to offer new and existing FMCG clients with revolutionary developments in value-added scan data services'.
