AOL Research Leader Joins Nielsen Media
Audience measurement giant Nielsen Media Research has appointed Howard Shimmel as Senior Vice President, Client Insights. Shimmel has worked for the company before, on beginning his career in media industry research in 1979. Most recently, he was VP, Market Research at AOL.
His new role will include evaluating the impact of major innovations such as DVRs and commercial audience ratings, and the development of new research approaches and methodologies. He will be based in New York and report to Dave Thomas, SVP Strategy and Business Development and Paul Donato, SVP, Chief Research Officer.
Shimmel worked at MTV Networks as VP of Audience Research, then became President of Symmetrical Resources, Inc., from 1997-2001. He then joined AOL, where he was responsible for research across all business units.
He is a former chairman of the Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau's national research committee and was a recipient of the Bureau's Jack Hill Award for excellence and integrity in media research in 1993 and its President's Award in 1990.
