Similarweb Launches AI Ads Tracker

In Tel Aviv, Similarweb has announced a new solution called AI Ads, providing data for those trying to understand the changing competitive landscape for ads in ChatGPT, as well as Google's AI Mode and AI Overviews.

Similarweb provides software to help clients understand online behavior, including that of visitors to sites similar to their own. In the last two and a half years the firm has acquired Chilean ad intelligence specialist Admetricks and Swiss app intelligence provider 42matters. The firm is currently looking for a new CEO after founder Or Offer informed the Board of his intention to transition out of the CEO role as his second decade completes next May.

The new service presents Similarweb customers with a competitive analysis of ads on the most used conversational AI platforms, ChatGPT, Google AI Mode & Google AI Overview, both worldwide and for specific markets. The firm says that ads appear in some 26% of ChatGPT responses (ChatGPT Free and Go tiers), nearly 30% of ad-eligible Google AI Mode queries, and in a good proportion of the more than 40% of Google searches which now trigger an AI Overview.

Similarweb says that for the Google features, 'most advertisers don't know whether their own ads are running in that context, let alone how they stack up against competitors...', while for ChatGPT, 'ads only show up when intent exists and is clarified from the conversation, and the decision comes down to the combination of ad creative, copy, and landing page.' The new tool provides insights drawn from real user panel conversations, not synthetic prompts, and in future releases should include advertisers' true share of voice, ad categories, and conversational intent.
