Technology researcher IDC has appointed Eva Au as the new Managing Director of its Asia/Pacific business. She was previously MD, Asia of legal and information publishing brand LexisNexis.

Au reports to Philippe de Marcillac, Senior VP of IDC's International Business Unit, who describes her as 'a proven business leader'. Based in Singapore, Au will take responsibility for operations in 13 countries across the region, excluding only Japan.

According to de Marcillac, 'Eva's strong background will strengthen our capabilities to develop strategies and set new benchmarks in our rapidly evolving and highly competitive industry. She possesses sharp intuitive skills, a dynamic personality, and keen aptitude for market development'.

Au says the next 12 months will be 'an exciting period for us as we chart new growth paths and expand our analyst talent in the region'. She takes over from Piyush Singh who has been with IDC since January 1994 and assumed the regiopnal MD's role in 2000. Singh has recently returned to India with IDC to establish and run a new IDC global offshore research centre, to be operational in July 2005.

De Marcillac says Singh has worked tirelessly for eleven years: 'His wisdom, passion, vision and personal commitment have helped establish a great team here at IDC Asia/Pacific as we enter our fourth decade in the region'. The company is online at www.idc.com
