Official Charts Company Opens Data to Clients

UK music and home entertainment data firm The Official Charts Company has launched a new intelligence platform, Official Charts PRO, offering access to the sales data used to compile its charts.

Becca MonahanThe Official Charts Company captures sales and streaming data for more than 99% of UK music consumption and 90% of physical and digital home entertainment transactions. Data is supplied directly by digital services and retail partners, and is offered to clients in the global music, film and video industries including record labels, music publishers, artist managers, film studios, video distributors, book publishers, ad agencies and consumer brands.

Users of the PRO platform, billed as the company's biggest-ever tech investment, can analyse performance across artists, tracks and film titles, delve into the detail of changes in consumption, and inform their plans for music and video release, and other commercial decisions. Available music data analysis ranges from daily track streams to market-wide trends, for all chart-registered artists releasing in the UK. For home entertainment, the platform combines film transactional data, box office information and subscription streaming availability: users can compare titles, understand purchasing and renting behaviour, and assess release windows. PRO offers dashboard access as well as automated reporting options.

In the company's most recent findings, digital film purchases and VoD accounted for 90% of total units across the UK's Top 20 home entertainment titles in 2025, up steadily from 66% in 2020. VoD accounts for the highest proportion of sales (around half of total units for the past two years), but digital ownership is also on the rise, from 27% of units in 2020 to 41% today. On the music side, 2025 results show that physical formats remain a major driver of No.1 albums, 65% of which first reached the top spot with physical sales accounting for the majority of their chart units that week, and proving key to the success of a number of the year's top artists such as Oasis, Sam Fender and Taylor Swift.

'The weekly charts are the most visible expression of our data,' says Interim Co-Managing Director Becca Monahan (pictured), 'but the detail behind them supports decisions across the music and home entertainment industries every day. Official Charts PRO opens up more of that intelligence to our clients - taking an already comprehensive offering and making it more accessible, flexible and actionable.'
