Funds and MBO for Danish Transcript Firm Good Tape
Copenhagen company Good Tape is being bought by its management from its previous owner, Danish media outlet Zetland. As part of the MBO, the firm has raised EUR 600k from Nordic Makers, whose partner Alexander Aghassipour has joined Good Tape's board.
The firm was founded in 2022 by two journalists, Ýmir Gyðuson Gíslason (now CTO) and Lasse Finderup (CEO) as a tool for Zetland employees to create accurate transcripts while keeping sensitive interview material under the customer's control. The software converts spoken audio into searchable text and is designed for journalists, researchers, lawyers, consultants and public-sector teams. Since its launch, the platform has processed more than 15 million transcriptions across more than 100 languages - it is now used by around 3 million people in more than 150 countries.
The MBO transfers control of Zetland's stake to Good Tape's founders and leaves it for the first time as an independent business. With the aid of the funding and its new, independent structure the company is broadening its offer beyond transcription, to turn clients' accumulated recordings into a private, searchable knowledge base for professionals working with interviews, meetings and other spoken content.
The firm is also launching Explore, a new feature that connects all of a user's recordings, and can surface patterns, contradictions, changing positions and supporting arguments, while linking each insight back to the original recording.
Aghassipour, who is a co-founder of Zendesk, will help to guide the company as it uses the funds to accelerate enterprise feature roll-out, grow its product development teams, and expand internationally.
