DisplaySearch Launches TV Price Forecast

US-based DisplaySearch, specialist in flat panel display(FPD) markets, has launched a quarterly model to provide analysis and forecasts of costs, prices and margins for various technologies in the TV market.

The TV Cost and Price Forecast Model provides historical cost and pricing data on a quarterly basis for each different technology - from traditional CRT TVs to liquid crystal display (LCD) sets, plasma display panels (PDPs), and rear projection TVs (RPTVs). By comparing costs and prices, users can determine which TV technologies and sizes are generating the highest and lowest margins.

The model also forecasts costs, prices and margins for each technology, looking forward at least 16 quarters. Margins are then projected to predict street prices. The tool separates brand and retail margins, allowing users to set their own margin targets to determine future prices and compare technologies.

Information is gathered from the company's team of TV supply chain experts in China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the US. The company believes the tool will prove useful to retailers and manufacturers as well as market analysts.

According to DisplaySearch President and CEO Ross Young: 'With numerous competing TV technologies, retailers and TV brands alike want to know which technologies and sizes are likely to have a cost advantage. At the same time, component suppliers want to know what prices they need to reach to hit critical street prices.'

The forecasting model costs $5,995 for a year's subscription or $2,000 for a single issue. It consists of seven spreadsheets, one for each technology, and a PowerPoint presentation. The company's web site is at www.displaysearch.com .
