Usability Lab Opens in Edinburgh

UK-based research and usability consultancy User Vision has opened a new research 'lab', focus group and training facility in Edinburgh. 'User Vision Focus' offers remote online viewing of focus groups and usability tests in real-time.

The new offering consists of two usability testing labs and one focus group room, allowing direct observation either via a one-way mirror or remotely via the web. Additionally, the company provides digital and VHS recordings of all focus group and usability testing sessions.

Chris Rourke, Director, says his company is increasingly being approached by clients in other areas of the UK and across the world looking for usability testing facilities, but that 'inevitably, location can be an issue'. By offering remote viewing, he believes the company is 'breaking down these barriers and making the whole process a lot easier for clients'.

As well as its traditional business of usability and accessibility testing for web sites, User Vision is seeing more demand for usability testing on products such as mobile phones, cash machines and computer keyboards. Recent client wins include O2 and Kingston Communications. As a result, the company will shortly be appointing a new consultant specialising in non-internet products.

The company will be holding several events in Edinburgh on 3rd November 2005 as part of World Usability Day. More details are at www.uservision.co.uk.
