National Research Corp Buys Health Plan Specialists

US healthcare performance measurement agency National Research Corporation (NRC) has bought Geriatric Health Systems (GHS), a healthcare survey research firm that specialises in measuring health status and member satisfaction for health plans in the US. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

NRC provides survey-based performance measurement, analysis, and tracking services to the healthcare industry, measuring care outcomes and health status of patients. GHS develops proprietary surveys for insurance risk stratification, patient outcomes and member satisfaction for more than 60 Medicare and commercial health plans in the US.

Michael Hays, NRC's CEO described GHS as 'the ideal platform for NRC's entry into the commercial health plan market, which represents a market equal in size to the provider market in which we currently derive the majority of our revenues'. He says the GHS client base covers 'the best and the largest health plans across the country' and that its products and services are 'on the cutting edge'. The company's CFO says the acquisition opens a large new market for NRC, and is anticipated to increase 2005 earnings.

Peter Yedidia, President of GHS, says the merger will 'result in enhanced services for our current clients as well as expansion of our client base to an even greater number of health plans'.
