Synovate Acquires Asian Youth Specialist

Synovate has bought Asian youth trend research agency The Filter Group, of which it previously owned 25%. Filter will form part of the company's new global youth specialist unit, Synovate YC, and its CEO will become head of Synovate YC Asia.

Filter, which has offices in Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Japan, was founded in 2000 by Ian Stewart and Stuart Wason. The company will integrate with Synovate YC over the coming months, and Stewart will serve as head of Synovate YC in Asia, based in Bangkok. Wason, who has decided to pursue new interests, will remain in Singapore.

Tim Balbirnie, CEO of Synovate Asia Pacific, explains that his company 'wanted to ensure our full involvement in, and commitment to, what we see as a stellar future' in the youth research market. He says Synovate is 'delighted to have inherited a well-developed client base along with 'some of the best ideas in youth marketing'. Stewart believes the integration into Synovate will allow Filter to 'take the past five years of youth research expertise to a global level'.
