GfK Launches International Academy

GfK has opened an Academy, based in Nürnberg, Germany, to provide training and development to managers in marketing, market research and corporate planning. The training programme comprises eight modules, which can be taken on their own, or as part of a two-year certificated course.

Lessons began on Wednesday this week, with a seminar entitled Segmentation: Identifying and Targeting the Right People, run by Professor Sunil Gupta from New York's Columbia University. The other modules are:
  • Brands and brand management (15-18 February 2006)
  • Clients and client management (24 -26 April 2006)
  • Price and pricing strategy
  • Innovation management
  • Knowledge management in marketing
  • Strategic marketing management
  • Consulting and communication.
Other visiting lecturers include:
  • Dr Erich Joachimsthaler, CEO Vivaldi Partners, NewYork
  • Professor Srinivas Reddy, Director, Coca-Cola Center for Marketing Studies, Terry College of Business, University of Georgia
  • Professor Werner Reinartz, INSEAD Fontainebleau.
The Academy will be headed by Friedgard Spingler, MD of the GfK Academy, who has been responsible for its development since March 2003. The initial idea for the Academy emerged in 2000. It was approved by the GfK board in 2002, and the programme was then created following an investigative survey. GfK-Nürnberg e.V., which has a majority shareholding in the GfK Group, will contribute an annual sum of more than EUR 400,000 towards the running of the Academy.

At the Academy's launch this week, Joachimsthaler gave examples of the ways that marketing and market research can contribute to growth and innovation within a company. Hajo Riesenbeck, Director of McKinsey & Company in Düsseldorf, President of GfK-Nürnberg e.V. and Supervisory Board Chairman of the GfK Group, explained the origins of the establishment. 'The Academy is intended as a challenging alternative for managers, offering them innovative, practical and forward-looking continued professional development and training.'
