New GMI Director to Build Presence in China

US-based online specialist Global Market Insite (GMI) has appointed Benny Huang as Director of Marketing for Asia Pacific. Huang, who is based in Shanghai, will report to GMI's Chief Marketing Officer Mark Houston in Seattle.

Prior to GMI, Huang worked as national online market manager for Chinese company 51net for six years. While there, he implemented a client data-mining and real-time information tracking system, helping to acquire new online clients. Previously, he was Marketing Manager for www.shanghai-window.com, where he was responsible for marketing strategy and e-commerce solutions. He holds an MBA from Leicester University in the UK.

Huang's new role is to drive the company's strategic direction and positioning across Asia Pacific, starting with China, where he will work for the next six months, before heading for GMI's Sydney regional headquarters.

Houston states that Huang's experience in marketing in Asia spans over a decade, and includes 'a proven track record in leveraging and exploiting the potential of the Internet, from e-commerce to online communities'.

GMI, which says it is 'committed to building a major presence in China', started its China operations in Shanghai in January 2005, and offers market research software, and consumer panels in Chinese. Currently, GMI's China panel includes more than 250,000 members. The company also recently acquired Insight, formerly the exclusive distributor of SPSS market research software products in China. Huang says he has 'been following GMI with great interest since they broke into the Chinese market early this year,' and believes the company has positioned itself to 'take significant advantage of the expanding online market research industry'.
