Blogs Under the Spotlight

Media measurement specialist Cymfony has launched Orchestra, a market intelligence dashboard application that integrates data from mainstream media (MSM) and consumer-generated media (CGM) including blogs. Meanwhile Intelliseek has entered into an agreement to provide AOL with daily blog data and trend analysis from its BlogPulse search engine.

The web-based Orhcestra service, which combines automated monitoring and discovery of media with expert human analysis, was officially unveiled at the BlogOn 2005 Social Media Conference, taking place in New York City yesterday and today.

Orchestra captures and analyses discussions in CGM and thousands of MSM sources to provide insight into consumer preferences, employees' concerns, competitors' strengths and weaknesses, and emerging threats and opportunities.

It permits real-time, 'side-by-side' analysis of the two branches of media, and helps users track the evolution of perceptions from blogs to mainstream publications, tapping into what CEO Andrew Bernstein calls 'the expanding world of unfiltered social media'.

Bernstein says the product should provide 'an essential solution to the problems of information overload' for workers in sectors including reputation management, customer behaviour analysis, and competitive intelligence.

Cymfony's business intelligence solutions are powered by InfoXtract technology, an information extraction and analysis engine used by US government and intelligence agencies. The company is online at www.cymfony.com

Intelliseek and AOL

Under the new agreement, AOL will provide details of Intelliseek's daily blog data, statistics, trend charts and blog entries on its network - to update Internet users about online 'buzz'. The data will include top blogs, top news stories and sources cited by bloggers, top links shared by bloggers, and the top personalities and phrases being discussed.

AOL also will have access to BlogPulse's own blogs - BlogPulse Newswire, a summary of blog activity, and the entertainment-focused BlogPulse Spotlight. It will also be able to make use of BlogPulse's graphical trend-creation tool, which can track the buzz over time for a particular issue.

Bill Schreiner, VP of AOL Community says the use of the data 'will keep visitors to the AOL network connected to and informed about the fast-growing blogging community', noting that 'blogs are redefining the Internet landscape and empowering the consumer-generated media movement'.

Intelliseek, which bases its analysis on an index of more than 17 million blogs, is online at www.intellseek.com
