SPSS Awards Recognise Insight

MR software giant SPSS presented its second annual Insight Awards this week to a range of companies - including a bank, a racetrack and a community advice network. All winners were judged to have contributed to their organisations' success through the use of SPSS predictive analytics software.

The awards, presented at the SPSS Directions user conference in Las Vegas, were based on seven criteria: business impact, productivity improvements, magnitude of change, breadth or depth of analytics used, innovation, service improvements and lessons learned.

The winners were as follows.
  • Market Research award: Design Forum, a retail design and strategy firm, for its work in understanding the attributes of each consumer, and tailoring each project to their needs.
  • Data mining award: Yamagata Bank, a regional Japanese bank, for its creation of an SPSS-based credit risk model to assess housing loan applications.
  • Data analysis and research award: Community Empower, a homeownership counselling network, for its use of software to compare the effects of hundreds of credit criteria against a dataset of creditworthy customers. The analysis established which credit behaviours would harm or help a customer applying for a loan.
  • Business intelligence award: Chase-Pitkin Home & Garden, a home improvement chain, for its work in reducing inventory shrink, increasing corporate-wide visibility of store data, and improving supply-chain practices.
  • Individual Achievement award: Atique Shah, VP of CRM and technology solutions at Churchill Downs racetrack, for helping the company to analyse the best methods for optimising customer relationships.
SPSS President and CEO Jack Noonan says his customers' successes are 'a source of great pride for us, as they're setting new standards worldwide'.
