Rapid Expansion for IDC

US technology specialist IDC says it has added 51 new director- and vice president-level employees in recent months in research and advisory roles. The hires are part of an ongoing strategy to expand vertical industry and technology market coverage as well as geographic coverage.

IDC has said it wants to add 100 new research employees in 2006 and that hires to date put it ahead of schedule. Nearly all the 51 are research employees, and more than half are filling newly created positions. They are spread across 13 countries in every region of the world. According to President and CEO Kirk Campbell: 'IDC recognizes the importance of investing in people, whether it's an individual with deep industry technology experience or someone with broad knowledge of a local market.'

The company's $35 million strategic investment plan was launched in 2003. It includes the creation of new industry-specific Insights companies, which provide analysis of how IT is used within their industry - and enhancements to its Vertical Views program, which offers detailed analysis of IT spending and buyer behavior across 17 vertical industries. The newest Insights company - Government Insights - was launched in March, joining Energy Insights, Financial Insights, Health Industry Insights, and Manufacturing Insights.
