Steady Growth for Asian Telecoms

The Asia/Pacific telecom equipment market will continue to grow robustly, from US$43 Billion in 2005 to US$47 Billion in 2007, according to technology specialist In-Stat.

Key drivers of growth include network expansion in China and India; the accelerating deployment of high-speed Internet access networks in Japan, South Korea, and other developed markets; and the implementation and extension of 3G wireless networks throughout the region.

In-Stat says India's market will have the fastest Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR), close to 10%, for 2005-2007. In 2005, category leading vendors were Ericsson for wireless equipment, Cisco for data networks, Alcatel for Internet access equipment and Huawei for transport systems. In 2005, telecom service providers in the region spent 12.9% of their total service provisioning revenue on purchasing new equipment.

In-Stat analyst Victor Liu says the firm expects market consolidation among service providers in weaker positions. 'As competition intensifies in the marketplace, equipment vendors will have to differentiate themselves to win projects by excelling in a focused product area or providing comprehensive choices and end-to-end solutions'.

The report, Telecom Equipment Market in Asia, includes forecasts for telecom equipment sales in 2006 and 2007 for the region and for several major countries, plus coverage of regional markets and a roundup of major telecom implementations and contract winners. Part of In-Stat's Asia Networking/Telecom Service, it also provides size and scope for segments including VoIP, WiMAX, consumer and business WiFi and FTTX, in China, India, Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
