Nielsen Completes Client Data System

ACNielsen and consumer goods company Henkel have announced the completion of Minerva, 'one of Europe's most comprehensive and powerful data warehouses'.

The custom-built market information system processes and manages data for over 50 consumer product categories from nine European countries and accessed at present by nearly 1000 Henkel employees who rely on its output to make key decisions in general management, brand and category management, sales, media and finance.

Dr. Hans-Willi Schroiff, VP Market Research at Henkel, says Nielsen proposed 'the most future-oriented concept' when the firm tendered to replace its previous information system three years ago.

Nielsen delivered an open platform to facilitate the integration of information across countries, categories and information sources in one database, currently 1.2 Terabytes in size. An integrated 'report factory' automatically updates extensive standard report structures using the firm's 'i-sights' suite, and distributes them via the ACNielsen Answers Internet portal to all users at Henkel.

Frank Martell, President and CEO, ACNielsen Europe, says the system is the result of three years' successful collaboration. 'It was important for Henkel to base Minerva on standard software applications and systems' says Martell, 'to ensure that the system continues to benefit from new developments and applications as part of ACNielsen's commitment to ongoing investment in technology and innovations for its client base'.
