China Launch for Doxus

Technology and financial research specialist Doxus has announced plans to open a Chinese office in 2007, to be headed up by David Ying Hong Ho, who has worked previously as a supplier / partner to the company. Doxus currently has sites in Portland and Atlanta.

Ho is a native of China with 13 years of experience in MR in his homeland. In his new role he will manage projects and vendors, and advise clients on the intricacies of research in China.

Since 1993 Ho has worked with Chinese agencies including DN Acorn/Vantage, CSHK and Market Insight, and is in demand as a technology moderator. He has technical certifications from Microsoft (MCP) and CompTIA as well as hands-on experience as an IT manager. Ho has a master's degree in Asian studies from the University of Hong Kong and a Diploma in Translation (General, Technology and Science Translation) from the Chartered Institute of Linguists in London.

Doxus says it has previously conducted research in China through close partnerships with local vendors such as Mr. Ho, but now sees a growing demand for research there. 'According to ESOMAR, the growth rate for market research in China was an impressive 25% in 2005, compared to an estimated global growth rate of 7%', says Doxus Principal Theo Downes-Le Guin. 'But before research buyers take the plunge, they need to be aware of issues that can arise and possibly derail projects in this vast, varied market.' Ho himself comments: 'Today, most research experience in China is gained from the consumer goods industry. The opportunity to focus on IT research and specific tech topics is substantial.'
