NPD Expands with Partial Acquisition
The NPD Group has acquired the consumer electronics, imaging, and computer business sectors of Current Analysis, Inc. Current Analysis continues as before in the telecoms, networking, and business software sectors.
The new NPD entity, Current Analysis West, offers competitive pricing, promotions and share of shelf; analytical expertise; and competitive response solutions. As an an autonomous business under the NPD umbrella, it will provide services complementary to others in the group, in particular flat panel firm DisplaySearch.
Current Analysis West will remain based in San Diego, which will also become NPD's west coast headquarters. Rupert Walters, Group President for NPD, will head up its team backed by two leaders from Current Analysis, Rich Alires and Patrik Schmidle, while NPD Director Amadeo Rodriguez will liaise between the group and the new company and work closely with Walters to develop overall strategy.
Walters says the acquired teams offer a unique mix of causal data, tools, and analysis: 'Our vision is to capitalize on our respective strengths in order to provide a higher level of information and solutions, initially to the consumer technology industry and, ultimately, for other industries.'
