Publisher CMP Buys Technology Analyst
Media and marketing owner CMP Technology has acquired Semiconductor Insights, a provider of technical and market analysis, and intellectual property (IP) information, to the global semiconductor industry.
An eighteen-year-old Canadian company with offices around the world, Semiconductor Insights (Semi Insights) has brands including intellectual property service IPinsights, and market and technology analysis wing TECHinsights. It also owns a proprietary database of nearly 5,000 analytic reports based on primary data from 16,000 components and Integrated Circuits. The company's expertise spans communications, networking, wireless, electronics, smart card and semiconductor technologies, with a key focus on consumer electronics.
The two companies have already worked together for several years with Semi Insights providing editorial material and technical content for CMP sites and publications.
The Semi Insights executive team will report to Paul Miller, President of CMP's Technology Innovators Group, and be based in Ottawa, Canada. Miller says the acquisition is 'further confirmation that CMP is charting a new course in providing engineers, technologists, business managers, and IP professionals the critical information they need to succeed and to provide our customers with the means to communicate with these creators of technology.'
Semi Insights' President and CEO of fifteen years Doug Smeaton died earlier this year. Today his wife Marg Smeaton, a board member of the firm, said she was 'very pleased' with the deal, adding: 'Doug was very passionate about his company and the semiconductor marketplace. He was confident that CMP is the right partner to take Semiconductor Insights to the next level and continue to build the company according to the strategic plans Doug had envisioned.'
